The United Kingdom Government holds a register of approved colleges for overseas students: www.dfes.gov.uk.
In the past there has been an issue with regard to bogus colleges. They were set up to sell fake degrees or as part of immigration and visa fraud allowing people to enter the United Kingdom illegally.
The approved register of education providers was created in 2005 to prevent such abuses. Applicants for student visas must show that they would be attending a legitimate institution.
If you have doubts, you should make in depth enquiries into any institution, which you intend to register with.
Further information and contact details for all of Scotland's 43 Further Education Colleges can be found on the Association of Scotland's Colleges website: www.ascol.org.uk.
Check the approved UK Government register, www.dfes.gov.uk/providersregister, or contact the Scottish Government's FREE Relocation Advisory Service (RAS) who may be able to confirm the credibility of the college or university.
